About Scenic Pittsburgh
Scenic Pittsburgh is established to advocate and support the development and implementation of fair and sound public policies related to visual impacts on neighborhoods, transportation corridors, business, cultural and entertainment districts and streetscapes. Scenic Pittsburgh believes that the protection of the scenic beauty of our region is a high priority issue directly linked to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
Scenic Pittsburgh has identified the monitoring and regulation of visual pollution, outdoor advertising, and other scenic/visual detractors as a vital component to maintaining a strong vibrant city with high quality neighborhoods, strong/stable property values, and the ability to attract new businesses. Scenic Pittsburgh serves as the voice for the community to assure fair and equal representation in all issues related to visual blight and the preservation of scenic beauty. In addition, Scenic Pittsburgh participates in and advocates for the public policy development and implementation of all streetscape issues, such as aesthetic and reasonable on and off-premise sign standards, night sky preservation, regulation of high wall signage and elimination of litter and graffiti especially in high visibility areas.
The mission of Scenic Pittsburgh is to preserve, protect and enhance the scenic beauty of the Pittsburgh region thereby creating a more beautiful place to live, work and visit.Executive Director

“SCENIC PITTSBURGH” HIRES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Mike Dawida to Lead Regional Environmental and Beautification Efforts
Scenic Pittsburgh, a newly created project of the Pennsylvania Resources Council, has announced the selection of Mike Dawida as Executive Director. Scenic Pittsburgh will explore issues involving visual blight, billboards and other outdoor advertising while working to develop a plan of action for addressing the growing issue of electronic advertising throughout greater Pittsburgh. Scenic Pittsburgh’s goal is to preserve and protect scenic beauty in the region
Mike Dawida is a professor of Law and Public Policy at California University of Pennsylvania and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the Hamline University School of Law. As a Pennsylvania State Senator and Representative from 1979 to 1996, Mr. Dawida championed and passed many legislative firsts including the Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air Act, the Pennsylvania Food Donor Act and the Pennsylvania Organ Donation Act.
In 1996, Mr. Dawida was elected to the Allegheny County Board of Commissioners where as Chairman he overhauled the County Pension System, founded the Airport Authority, and created the Allegheny County 911 System. He also orchestrated several billion dollars of development projects that include the Heinz Stadium, PNC Park, David Lawrence Convention Center and the "Waterfront" in Homestead.
“Scenic Pittsburgh’s goal is to preserve and protect scenic beauty in southwestern Pennsylvania,” stated Mr. Dawida. “Our region’s beauty is a combination of rivers, hills, and architecture that create a cultural heritage and character that is uniquely Pittsburgh. Attractive communities and unspoiled scenic vistas are critical to our quality of life since both encourage us to appreciate and maintain beauty and the natural environment.”
Scenic Pittsburgh is an affiliate of Scenic America, the only national nonprofit organization dedicated solely to preserving and enhancing the visual character of America's communities and countryside. Scenic America accomplishes its mission through national advocacy efforts and technical assistance services, local and national projects, and the support of affiliates.
